A National Asset Reimagined
For generations, Chapelcross played an important role in Scotland's energy and industrial story.
CX Technology Campus represents an opportunity to build on that heritage by creating a new centre for digital infrastructure, technology and innovation in Dumfries and Galloway.
The proposals include up to 162,000 sqm of data-centre floorspace across eight data-centre buildings, supported by energy infrastructure, industrial space and a dedicated training centre.
Located on land to the north of the former Chapelcross nuclear power station, the campus has been designed to make use of the area’s established infrastructure, energy heritage and access to renewable generation.

Built for the Digital Economy
Demand for digital infrastructure is growing rapidly as cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other data-intensive technologies become increasingly important across the economy.
CX Technology Campus has been designed to meet that demand while making responsible use of a former major industrial and energy site.
The project brings together digital infrastructure, renewable energy, established infrastructure and long-term regional investment within a single data centre development.
Our aim is to demonstrate that major digital infrastructure can be delivered responsibly, with environmental performance, economic opportunity and community benefit considered from the outset.
Net zero at Scale
CX Technology Campus is being developed as a net zero technology campus.
The development will be designed, constructed and operated in alignment with the UK Green Building Council framework.
Creating Opportunity in Dumfries & Galloway
The proposed development represents the potential for investment on a scale rarely seen in Dumfries and Galloway.
Around 750 jobs are expected to be supported during the eight-year construction programme, alongside 40 apprenticeships in each construction year.
Once fully developed, the campus will support around 540 permanent direct jobs, as well as wider employment and local supply-chain opportunities.
A dedicated training centre will help create pathways into careers across digital technology, engineering, energy and other associated industries.
CX Tech Limited is also developing a long-term Community Wealth Building approach intended to help businesses, communities and people across Dumfries and Galloway access the opportunities created by the development.
Project Progress
Moving from Vision Towards Delivery
CX Technology Campus is progressing through the planning and development process.
A Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) application has been submitted to Dumfries & Galloway Council for the development. The PPiP application establishes the proposed planning framework for the development, with future phases remaining subject to further design, commercial, planning and investment decisions.
An extensive Environmental Impact Assessment has been undertaken and is submitted alongside the application.
Community information events have already been held in Creca and Annan.
Subject to the necessary consents, the campus would be delivered in phases over an eight-year programme
