History
From Energy Generation to Digital Infrastructure
Chapelcross has played an important role in the economy and identity of Dumfries and Galloway for generations.
Before becoming an energy site, the area was used as an RAF and munitions base.
It later became home to Chapelcross nuclear power station, Scotland’s first commercial nuclear power station.
The power station generated electricity from the late 1950s until 2004 and supported generations of skilled employment in the surrounding area.
The former power station is now undergoing a long-term programme of decommissioning.
Alongside that work, a wider vision has emerged for the regeneration of Chapelcross as a location for new investment, employment, energy and industry.
CX Technology Campus forms part of that next chapter.
The ambition is to build on the infrastructure, skills and energy heritage associated with Chapelcross and give the area a new role supporting the digital and net zero economy.
