A New Chapter for Chapelcross
CX Technology Campus is a proposed 55-hectare net zero technology campus on land to the north of the former Chapelcross nuclear power station in Dumfries and Galloway.
The proposals are focused on creating the infrastructure required to support the rapidly growing needs of artificial intelligence, advanced computing and cloud services, while making responsible use of a location with a long-established energy and industrial heritage.
The proposed development includes:
- Up to 162,000 sqm of data-centre floorspace
- Eight data-centre buildings
- Approximately 1GW of potential data-centre capacity
- Supporting energy and power infrastructure
- Industrial space
- A dedicated training centre
CX Tech Limited is leading the development of the campus, bringing together specialist expertise across data centres, infrastructure, engineering, energy, planning and major project delivery.
The project forms part of the wider regeneration of Chapelcross and the ambition to establish the area as a major location for employment, investment and new industry.
Why This Matters
Demand for cloud computing, AI and digital services is increasing rapidly, creating a growing requirement for large-scale digital infrastructure.
At the same time, the way that infrastructure is designed, powered and delivered matters increasingly to communities, governments and industry.
Chapelcross provides an opportunity to bring these requirements together.
Its established energy history, strategic infrastructure, available land and proximity to significant renewable generation provide strong foundations for the development of a major technology campus.
The ambition is not simply to develop data centres, but to create a long-term economic asset capable of attracting investment, supporting new industries and generating opportunities across Dumfries and Galloway.
